Session Format

DAY 1 – London Riots
DVD will be shown on the London Riots 2011. After the viewing the Young People will be asked questions about ‘Why the Riots happened’ they will be encouraged to provide views on the offenders involved, the actions of the Police, the actions of the Media, and their views on Politics. They will be asked to complete a short feedback form with regards to the topic in order for their voices to be heard and effect change.

DAY 2 – Adulthood
Focus topic of the day, which is the Noel Clarke film Adulthood. A section of the film will be shown involving several forms of offending behaviour and a variety of characters highlighting their roles and positions amongst peers. The young people will then be asked to brainstorm all the different offences identified in the section of the film, the types of Court disposals for certain types of offences, what they think about the characters played by Plan B, Adam Deacon, and Noel Clarke, and if they have come into contact with similar characters. This will be followed by a role play exercise.

DAY 3 – Youth Detention Accommodation & Prisons
Three programmes will be shown looking at the lives of a young male detainee, a young female detainee, and historical footage of early juvenile prisons. After the DVD viewing the young people will be asked about their views on the footage shown.

DAY 4 – Guest Speakers
The young people will be informed that a host of guest speakers will be attending the session providing them with the opportunity to hear about their experiences in work, the arts, sports, and education. This will also provide the young people with the opportunity to network.

DAY 5 – CONTACTS & LINKS
The award ceremony will be held. The young people that attended 4 to 5 days of the programme will be presented with an achievement certificate and a gift voucher. The final day of the programme will provide the opportunity for the young people to obtain contact details and links to the areas they expressed interest in. The young people will complete an exit questionnaire regarding their experience of the Programme.
